Andy was depicted as a country-smart sheriff and a caring, nurturing father. Andy and Barney both work the courthouse during daytime hours, and rotate shifts at night. He was in the Army during World War II, serving from 1943 until 1946. He would help transgressors by enabling them to draw their own moral conclusions. Their chemistry made up the heart of the show and its popularity. Moore was interred at Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands, California, but her family later moved her remains to Oak Grove Cemetery in her home town of Americus, Georgia.
